An architect named Peter leaves the city to reconnect with his creative roots on a remote Saskatchewan farm. Overwhelmed by the harsh winter and isolation, he discovers that pioneer life is harder than he imagined. A series of real and imagined characters, including Henry Thoreau, help him reflect on his purpose. The experience transforms him, allowing him to finally live happily in the present.
